An Interview with conducted with Corporal Jan Zad which can be read below:
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a student from Czechia (Czechoslovakia), 19 years old. I live in Prague and my hobbies include playing games, piano, jogging and volleyball. As of right now I am waiting to pass my finals and am applying for military university next year.
What is your favourite aspect of the unit?
My favourite aspect of the unit is the people, as this is one of, if not the, best communities I´ve ever been part of. From going on missions together, chilling in Teamspeak or playing other games there have been so many positive influences from people here and I couldn´t be more glad for this.
Any memorable moment you have had throughout your time in the unit?
It was my first mission with the unit. I was still very green and unfamiliar with the mods. My Enhanced Movement was not set up properly and 3rd Squad, 1st Platoon was tasked with crossing a long bridge (100 -ish meters) to destroy a barricade on the other side. Well... a tank came rolling in, and my squad jumped down with EM. I was stuck on the bridge, confused and scared, crying for help. The tank got destroyed and for the rest of that mission, I couldn't hear anything but their laughs. Looking back, it was quite funny.
Any advice you want to give to your fellow soldiers?
Find a friend in the unit. I've had the best time here with people I got to know.
Any valuable lessons you have learned while being in the unit?
There are many but one stands up above any other. Don't be afraid to ask questions even if they sound stupid. As a part of S1 and S3, I´ve already heard many and there is always something that you can take from them. Even today I am still learning new things about ARMA 3, mods and the unit itself, simply because I know that I can ask and there are people who will share that stuff with me.
The 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment have for the last two months been deployed to the warthorned region of Kunar, Afghanistan. Here the men from the 3rd Battalion have managed to assist in stabilizing the region into a stalemate with Taliban on the south-eastern parts of the region. However, a force such as this unit is not meant to conduct stalemate operations, and even though the weather in Afghanistan is great during this time of year, we are needed elsewhere.
We do not live in world without conflict, and as of this posting the unit have recieved it's Rapid Deployment 18 hour notice to South Everon, United Everon.
Effective of this posting, we have been deployed to Everon. The opeartion which we are conducting have been named Operation Sundown.
United Everon was previosuly considered a close United States ally in the region. Many excersises have previously been conducted with the Everones Armed Forces, for that reason the United States had two semi-permanent bases which they rotated trough on occasion.
After the change of Government in 2010 many releations between the UE and US was cut off politically, but the US bases remained on Everon, as these were considered US soil. Releations were cut of primarily due to the UEs interest in developing medium-distance rockets to intimidate their neigbours, Since 2010 the releations between the two states have improved, the releations are not where they were before as the current government would rather look east than west, but they understand that the US bases in the region are there to stay. Recently Everon have also partnered with the United States on a trade agreement on fundemental supplies such as food, beverage and medical supplies.
At the same time of the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment was deployed to Kunar, Afghanistan, around 700 Everon Armed Forces personnel made their way to South Everon, a previous military island consisting of primarily abandoned military bases and a few civilian villages. The maneuver was quickly picked up by Military Intelligence which voiced the concern of 700 Armed Forces troops moving dangerously close to a small US Military base right outside the Island. The Government was quick to dismiss the allegations of troops on the island, but when given clear evidence of military excersises being conducted there, they stated that no orders were given of troops being there, and that the troops are acting on their own accord.
Colonel Vladir Komaznov (Everon Armed Forces), Major Dimitirv Uniewski (Everon Armed Forces - Aviation Command) and Captain Davyd Sakvyn (Special Operations Command) was quickly identified as the leaders of the troops, and are refusing to remove their troops of the Island before the United States are cutting all ties to Everon and withdraws from their Military bases despite the Government allowing it. The group have refused negotiations and will only remove themselves if there is clear evidence of United States wihdrawing, they have also refused to communicate with their own government.
Tensions are rising quickly and the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment have been sent there with clear objectives:
- Neutralize the rouge Everon Armed Forces threat on South Everon.
- Remove Colonel Konmaznov, Major Uniewski, Davyd Sakvyn and any other associates of significant rank currently posing a threat to stability in the region.
